About the course:

This course is intended to support educators/teachers/leaders and professionals who wish learn more about self-regulation in early childhood education and care and support the children in their care to further develop their self-regulation. It is designed to build empathy and understanding and to provide practical ideas for the classroom which support young children’s self-regulation and autonomy. The sessions include discussions of: research in the area; strategies, games and activities which support children’s self-regulation development; how to assess and use play, intentional pedagogy, problem solving and metacognition to support self-regulation.

What we offer

This course consists of two sessions, each of roughly an hour in length. However, there are additional short videos to watch to support understanding, and so in total, the course is roughly three hours long. The sessions considers self-regulation from two different perspectives. Session 1 considers the educationalists’ and psychologists’ views, while session 2 considers the neuroscientists’ views of self-regulation.  These different perspectives provide different but complementary and extremely useful insights into children’s behaviour and development and provide different examples of effective practice which support children to develop their self-regulation.

Both sessions are accompanied by handouts and additional video footage.
